Unless he gets regular walks. You’ve imprisoned your best friend! Why?

Far too many get dogs and do not take good care of them. It’s very sad.

Breaks my heart and makes me angry. I’d like to do the same to the people who do it and see how they like solitary confinement.

Why tie up a dog in a fenced yard?

This reminds me of the very excellent recent story over on Mutts about Guard Dog, who was always tied up. His owner abandoned him. But he had friends…and one special friend. I won’t spoil it. I think the arc started about mid-November. Mutts isn’t on GoComics. Try Arcamax or comics kingdom.

I’m glad there are more dog parks opening up. It is a shame to keep a dog penned up like a prisoner.

Be responsible pet owners. If your pet runs free and is hit by a car, it’s YOUR fault, not the drivers. If your pet attacks (or it appears so to the victim), and the dog is put down, that’s YOUR fault, not the dog’s, not the “mean person” who felt threatened.

Except for the fire hydrant, all the others can be found in a fenced yard.

I get the ‘joy of nature’ idea for a free range dog, but the way people drive in our neighborhood would inevitably mean a tragic ending.

Well, first reason is that the woods behind my house are home for some sort of canine—may be a coyote, wolf or just wild dogs. My dogs weigh 8 pounds and wouldn’t even make a good breakfast for them. Second, they are Havanese, cost thousands of dollars and would be resalable it anyone realized they were. Third, they have a doggie door and can be there when they want to be and inside if they want. Fourth, as with many dog owners, walking a dog is not an available option. Fifth, when the fence is the option and many dogs are destroyed for lack of someone who is able to provide a safe environment for them and consequently doesn’t provide a home at all, I think you need to rethink your opinion.

I used to live on the other side of Morro Bay with a view of The Rock and shore. Now I have a panoramic view of six-foot fences. I know how such a dog feels. :)

Every dog needs Obedience Training. YOU will then be the Alpha dog. Your dog will be happy when it pleases you by following your commands and it will be well-behaved in all circumstances.

Just because your “child” wants to run free and play doesn’t mean it’s the right thing for you to let him.

Snort. My dog isn’t tied and this fence is only a climbing exercice for him. We are raising the fence to two meters of chainlink topped with a coyote roller. Not because we fear he will bite people – he is the fastest licker of our village and will slobber all over you – but because he is all black, hardly visible against a road background and totally invisible in the night.

Guard Dog from Mutts finally was unchained. That whole sequence of comics made me cry and I was so happy to see him with his new name in his new home.
