Silly question. Mr. Dear should know bassets follow their nose and never let a good sniff go unsniffed.

My husband used to gripe because Barney sniffed so much on a walk. I set him straight in a hurry. Bassets are born to sniff.

Dogs, including Fred, can smell up to 100,000 times better than humans. Meanwhile Mr.Dear has his nose in the air.

I’m with Mr Dear. I hate it when dogs languish behind me and slow me down. Get a leash, Mr Dear!

Part of being a dog the ability to smell so many things …. and then trying to figure it all out ;-)

We have two short dogs and it’s walk, sniff, stop, sniff, walk, sniff, stop, sniff…

Our hounds always had their noses to the ground on walks. My father was out with our last one at a campground. Shadow was so intent on sniffing the ground that he completely missed the four deer crossing the path in front of him!

Dogs don’t let a sniff go unsniffed, but I do.

Try having him on a leash. He’ll follow you that way. And have you any idea where he’s pooping?

For humans the most important sense is sight, followed by hearing, smell, taste and touch. For dog’s the most important is smell, then hearing, sight, touch and taste.
