Well, I guess I misread the reason for her odd expression when looking at her tape recorder. I was positive the woman had broken the plate instead of Elvis. My own detecting skills have been a bit off lately.
She needs a new BIG case. So glad it’s not a crush on Pucky. LOL But with Two kids and six cats, in their apartment alone, surely there are cases to be solved! So turn here loose to do her detective thing!
An awful lot of mysteries around here do tend to end with “the Robber Mice did it”. Not exactly brainteasers.
Maybe Goldie could get in touch with RCO (Radio Cat Oracle, the ghosts of the beloved household cats of days past) for a true-crime retrospective podcast? Mysteries of the Big Pink House Through the Ages?
I love the way Puck is trying to listen to her feelings, though he does not share them.Maybe the idea is that happy stories…new lamps and kibble…may easily get repetitive and boring, especially to a cat who’s had to survive in the Wide World. Detective work is likely to have some puzzles to solve, surprises, emotions and various malfeasances. Goldie may be sensing something like what Leo Tolstoy noted in Anna Karenina, “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”
Goldie needs a big mystery to solve. Something like the TV disappearing from the laundry room so that no one can watch “My IX Lives” which would be a crisis of great importance for the cats as well as The Robber Mice. Perhaps someone finds a secret door, room or passage somewhere in The Big Pink House. Goldie is not meant to do the “life interest” stories for BCN, she needs something more on the level of Woodward and Bernstein, a big story to break or a big crime to solve.
Goldie needs to feed her passion. Puck would understand, I think, but Lupin could as well (once he wasn’t destroying things). Elvis might or might not get it.
I don’t know how anyone could fail to be excited about new lamps and kibble, but if Goldie prefers detecting, she needs more mysteries to unravel. Perhaps she could start with The Mystery of the Missing Apology.
Detection is the mainstay of my retirement years. Where I left my glasses is the grunt work. What needs repair next is a recurring theme. Wondering if the squirrel is on the roof or in the attic is in the horror genre.
I liked Puck cause he was an understanding kinda cat. Even for a seasoned reporter, he got me! He knew my back story, a gal who lived a tuff life that made me street savvy. He got that them, puff stories, just wasn’t gonna cut it anymore. ‘You wanna branch out, huh?’ Said Puck, but raised an eye brow, ‘Just don’t go too far out, on a limb!’ Then he winked! I laughed, ’Don’t worry boss, I know how to, hang on!’
REPOST from ladt night: “It’s late so I’ll post this again tomorrow, but after a few warmer days the peep toads have made their first appearance this evening. It will be a short one, as we’re supposed to get colder temps and a little snow by tomorrow morning, but they will be in and out until the weather decides to stay warm.”If the snow materialized, it was before I woke this morning, but it is cold today so probably no peep toad serenade tonight.
@Tigrisan—correction to my previous comment…I had a dog that hurled on the return trip from the vet. Learned to walk her for several minutes after the exam/shots. After doing this, Honey NEVER threw up again. Good luck.

“Puff pieces” about kibble? What?? Now, puffy kibble, that’s a story. Pieces of kibble, a whole documentary.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Beatrixia: I love this quote about life, “If you can’t make it better, you can laugh about it.”
Violet-Ifa: I like to laugh, but I also believe you can make everything better with cheese.
Puckmosis: Hear, hear! Bacon also improves everything.
Ishaq, the Cat in the Unusual Headgear: And some fish never comes amiss.
Beaver Lee Cleary: Oh yes! I almost forgot. Ishaq, Arachna wanted to show you her new textile.
Ishaq: If a spider wove it, it’s got to be good!
At the Afar Artisans’ Studio
Arachna Webspinner: Ishaq, long time no see!
Ishaq: Same! I understand you have a new fabric you created.
Arachna: Yes. It’s like silk, and can be used to create headgear.
Ishaq: You mean like my unusual hat, Ari?
Ari: Exactly. I would like to come to Egypt to do a hat making class. I can do one for kittens and grown cats.
Ishaq: That would be perfect for the Happy Healthy Hospital fundraiser. Would you like to hitch a ride with back to Egypt.
Ari: If it’s okay with everyone.
Ishaq: I’ll ask, but I’m sure it would be.
