I think I found a goof or error on Google. I looked up “fish and chips” on Goggle, and 3 of 4 pictures they show are pictures of fried fish and “French Fries”!
Google must have mistaken the pictures as being “Friday Fish Fries” which are everywhere.
Come on Gladys. Speak em with forked tongue. Gonna twist Wilberforce brain all around. Brain – left side speech and right side singing. Now poor Wilberforce will go fishing with BBQ Chips for bait. Gladys or Mother Gargle a Brit?
I liked the Michael Macintyre interview he had where he went through how Americans have to be very specific with their words to prevent confusion.Like Sidewalk. They need to be told to walk by the side of the road. They tried walking down the middle, but it didn’t turn out too well. And Eye Glasses – to remind them to put them over their eyes and not their knee. He had a whole load of them. Was quite funny
The history of fish ’n chips is really quite interesting. Of note is that the fried fish part came from Portugal and was sent to England by Jews who were expelled by the inquisition. Just where the chips, or french fries as we Yanks like to call it, came from might still be a mystery.
Our church Men’s Group and Knights of Columbus have Friday Fish Fry Dinners for four weeks. My wife is coordinating a dozen wives to bake 1000 homemade desserts. All profits going to charity.
Wilberforce is learning the “Mother Tongue” – our potato chips are their crisps and our French fries are their chips. A car trunk is a boot, an elevator is a lift, vacation is holiday and, excuse me but I have to go to the loo!
They defiantly don’t live in Wisconsin. We Wisconsinites have a Friday Night Fish Fry the whole year. Unless your an ethnic restaurant; on Friday you better have a good Fish Fry or you won’t be very busy.
I inadvertently once asked for ‘Fries’ with my fish instead of Chips… in a well labeled ‘Chip Shop’ in a Burrough of London. EVERYONE in the shop smirked (politely) and lo, from behind the counter my order came out with a mound of fresh French Fries. Proper chips would have worked much better dipped in the Mushy Peas but even I couldn’t resist a broad grin and quiet chuckle.

If the Brits cooked their fries in a nuclear reactor, would they be fission chips?
