I’m reminded of the first episode of Dharma and Greg, when Dharma introduced her dogs to Greg: “This is my dog Stinky, and this is Stinky’s dog, Luigi.”
Our first two dogs were planned…kinda (one was planned, the other was not. Got both at same time)The other two…..we fell victim to a local “furry Valentine” pet adoption promotion that happens every year. 4 rescue dogs.
Yup. First dog was supposed to be just watching over a friend’s pup while friend went on vacation. Friend moved away and left the dog. Others have been rescues from the pound or otherwise. All have been glad to be here and we are happy to have them. Cats much the same.

I have four cats because I’m too fussy about who I give my kittens to.

First ‘pet’ love often hits at just the right moment for both human and dog or cat. A need unfulfilled until that moment.

She’s moderately amused.

We have adopted every dog we ever had except one. We “inherited” her upon the death of her owner.

I brought home a dog that had been dumped, planning to take her to the shelter later. Seven years later, she’s still here.

People who “accidentally” have dogs probably shouldn’t have dogs and should consult their local Pet Planning agency. :)

But both dogs had an accident, on the carpet.
