Minor point: I can’t believe the police wouldn’t have verified the ‘twin cousin’ claim and discovered they were twin siblings.

Um… Okay, they got a whole faked truck of sports memorabilia in advance of the exhibit being shipped to Philly. It was pretty amazing that they got the list of everything that was supposed to come, and had the time to get counterfeits made of every single item. But despite having a list of everything they still got numbers wrong on jerseys.

But, incredible as it sounds, that is not the most unbelievable part. Having loaded up their entire counterfeit exhibit, on an identical truck, in Cooperstown NY so that the Philly cops could provide escort for the counterfeit exhibit to Philly the Bodine brothers then drove the real truck to Philly rather than heading to Canada, or Mexico, or Walla Walla Washington with the real stuff.

Unless we’re going to believe that Mortimer purchased a bus ticket to Cooperstown NY and apprehended them in the parking lot there… Where they were leaving after the fake truck had time to get to Philly and set up the exhibit while they sat in a parking lot in Cooperstown.

So they not only replicated the entire contents, they also replicated all of the labels, exhibit cases, museum numbers that would have been affixed to every artifact, and everything else that would have been in the original rig? And the museum didn’t send anybody to Philadelphia to make sure the exhibit was properly unloaded and installed? They would have noticed something was wrong.

Also, if the brothers had the stolen rig in Cooperstown, why didn’t they just leave with it? Why did they take the stolen rig to Philadelphia?

And they would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for the ever-vigilant Mortimer!

So they switched trucks in NY, the wrong truck was escorted to Philadelphia, and then at least one Bodine spent a few hours doing “security” duty in Philly after the counterfeit goods had been put on display. Yet the Philly police – assisted by Mortimer – arrested both Bodines in the truck containing the ‘real’ items. This implies that one Bodine drove the truck of stolen goods into Philly to collect his brother after his “shift” at the stadium … which seems like a rather odd game plan. They were clever about a lot of things, but that was kind of a bone-headed move.

    Tomorrow is “Popcorn Lovers Day”

One brother’s “respectable job” was a big part of the scam—-they decided to play off that angle even if it meant Ring Around The Rosie
