I remember back in 94 or 95, I was interning in a hospital and that night in the “break room” ER was in. And Eric LaSalle’s character had slumped down on the floor and said a four letter word meaning excrement. On network tv. We were aghast. Not at the word, but that USA Standards and Practices had allowed that.

You can sure get away with a LOT of “bad words” on TV these days, but so little in comic strips. At least for those of us making comments.
