I’d just wear a tank top and loose athletic shorts and lay on a chaise and sunbathe. Or get a tankini if I really wanna swim.

Maybe you WILL get to go alone, John. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Could be worse. I remember when Lynn used to draw Elly as grossly unshapely because Lynn herself was going through a period of self-loathing. Sure glad she snapped out of that!

Avoid weight gain, catch a norovirus.

Three kids, middle age, meal prep for 4 NON-dieting people, no time for exercising—it all adds up to a body that cannot wear clothing designed for fit twenty-somethings. There are, however, options that, while not as flattering as Elly might wish, are still good looking and hide a multitude of flaws.

Imagine the sounds being made as Whoopi Goldberg tries to squeeze into pantyhose..

When I took a cruise on Holland America, the food was so good I gained a pound a day.

Not that I would ever be on a cruise, but if I were, the buffet line would be the last place I would eat. X-P

For what is walking or sauntering down the streets today, Elly is gorgeous! Especially in the green.

How about a dose of “Real Life” for once….Their babysitter bails out at the last minute, forcing John and Elly to cancel their trip..

Don’t worry, lady. Everybody else on the cruise is either going to be 70 years old or 350 pounds.

She should look good to John, unless he is a total idiot.

As far as the second fram—Elle looks as if she is ‘pregers’….again ! As far as the third frame, I’ve seen a lot worse in a two-piece but will not ‘poke a stick in the bull’s eye’ ! ! ! !

Happy excuse for shopping for shorts, tops, etc. that fit. You’ll need them in the Canadian summer too.

I just got back from an Australian cruise. None of my clothes fit. And I really tried to be good! They must add butter to everything.

After the first three panels, how does John still have an appetite?

Wasn’t that the point of Elly’s bean meals? That she was out of shape and needed to drop some weight?

Of course, after three months of bean-centric meals, I guess I can see John’s point.

The people I know that cruise regularly, get rounder with each passing year.

Elly needs some new clothes for the trip.

And in breaking news, A Canadian Passenger on a Cruise with his wife “fell” overboard after he was stupid enough to answer his wife when she asked, “Does this swimsuit make my butt look big?” It is currently unclear if the man fell over the railing into the ocean or was thrown overboard by this wife. The investigation continues. Update at eleven………..

Number 147 in the running of joke of “Elly is not a very good cook.” John is going on a cruise and his top priority is one week of not having to eat Elly cooking.

As for Elly and her clothes, she is a mystery. A few years back we saw her throw out all her bikinis and her shorts. Why would she buy new clothes that don’t fit?

Old JIMMY HATLO cartoon I remember had women blaming the department stores when clothes they were trying on didn’t fit—-

“Here comes another one with blood in her eye. back from her winter cruise on the SS BUTTERBALL”

LOL… Neither Elle nor John are 25 anymore… Live with it and enjoy.

We took our first ever cruise a few years ago. I’d heard about the food so I dieted and lost about 60 lbs before we went. (I could afford it) And a good thing, too.

I’m in love. The older I get, the less appeal I see in the “traditional standard of beauty”

My only cruise was 45 years ago on a ship with about 500 passengers and I do not recall seeing very many of the so-called “superfine” looking women on board. Just ordinary people like Elly.

I get lots of ads for swimsuits. Some show a woman who is, like Elly, “normal”. On the other hand, One I just saw shows her from the back and … well, what fabric there is disappears. Not a good look!

Could we PLLEAASEE have all skirts and pants with elastic on the sides, not just the 18-20W?. Your waist really expands when you sit down, and that’s before you start eating. I don’t want elastic all the way around either.

You are not fat, you are out of shape…

Elly, you just need a few sessions with a fitness instructor to get into shape.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly your muscles will tighten up…
