wasn’t there an extended version of dune which was 6 hours long? patrick stewart and sean young was in that movie. then, some years later, a rts game called dune 2 became a cult favorite which spawn command and conquer.
Tried several times to read the novels but could never make it thru the original. I rather enjoyed the David Lynch version, Sting is great in that film. Can’t fear fear, fear’s the mindkiller.
“godz vs smog”- thinly veiled allegory vis-a-vis mother nature striking back at the omni-polluting military industrial complex which threatens all life in the biosphere.
The Movie version of “Dune” is the wors movie adaption of a novel that Hollywood has ever done. Kyle MacLachlan was absolutlly terrorable in the lead role of Paul. No way do you buy him as a 14 yr. old boy at the beginning. The SyFy channel miniseries version is better, but still does not do the book justice. “Dune” is arguablly the best SF novel of all time.
in short skip the movie and TV versions and read the book.Skip all the sequals though they are bad and have gone on way to long
But the power to destroy a thing is the absolute control over it! (OK, I’m rereading the book now, and can’t remember how it ends in order to contrast it with the movie). But things do seem to be heading to the direction of bringing water to Arrakis (that was the plan of Liet Kynes, anyway), as well as threatening the spice supply….
Isn’t that a little extreme? Not everyone is into sci fi. (I am liking my reread of Dune quite a lot, but the writing style is a little stilted. The interesting storyline easily makes up for it though.)
At least the movie was thoughtful enough to rouse me from my slumber by saying “The sleeper must awaken” several times. I’m still waiting for a movie of Chaperhouse Dune. I’d like to see J.J. Abram’s version of an Honored Matre.

“An electric veg-o-matic experience…” I’ll have to remember that for my own reviews of movies.
