I can’t keep my optimism for this long I’m tired of this cycle of nates couples this or next week is the breakup arc and the next will be nate coping till he chases more girls. No wonder these girlfriend arcs are somewhat hated

God, this is like getting punched in the gut.

Just wait… maybe next you will see one of the girls that talked her into breaking up, will be going with him!

No way. If Daphne really lets those friends of her cause a breakup between her and Nate I actually might quit this strip. Nate hasn’t done anything wrong to her. Nate may be getting detention a lot, but if you’ve read these strips half of the times he gets detention aren’t his fault. And maybe he doesn’t think it’s an issue, which means Daphne should just tell him it. If the do breakup, I’ll honestly feel really bad for Nate, because this is one of the best relationships he’s ever had, and he’s handled it very well. And if he gets dumped because of that stupid, easily avoidable reason, I don’t even know what to think.

While I hate the idea of this breakup happening – i like the strip with them together vs just another run of Nate hitting on girls, Daphne breaking up with him after her friends’ comments is vastly more realistic than any other option.

Bro, I was really hoping that Nate and Daphne would be. endgame or at least last a year, or go to a dance together. “sighing” but guess not

in reality – if she doesn’t like him enough to stand up to the school’s busybody “influencers” she definitely is NOT a keeper and NOT worth losing any sadness over. BUT if the next strip takes a more mature twist, then maybe being together for the rest of their lives might not be so bad. I gave my wife our first kiss when she was 1 and I was 2(I have the picture to prove it). We never got anywhere near serious till we had both graduated high school and I moved “back to the town she had continued to grow up in”, so one never knows for sure. And by the way, we celebrate 51 years together this year. js

What is this? If they break up, Daphne needs to rethink her life evaluation skills when it comes to making friends.

Many people here are thinking that they’re going to break up, but I’m not so sure. We could be seeing a “misdirection play,” similar to what often occurs in the Luann strip. In other words, what we seem to be seeing here might not actually be.

Mr. Peirce, please, we’re all begging you. Daphne is the best thing to ever happen to this strip. She’s not like the other girlfriends. This should not be the way it ends.

The twist to this story is that Nate will learn she’s been pressured because he’s such a twerp, and always getting detention. Nate will resolve to be a better person, follow the rules, study hard, comb his hair, and become a model student. She comes back to him and Nate gets a lot more friends because he is no longer a spaz. Pierce retires the strip. It was a good run.

This is a good example of peer pressure in America. I don’t know how this will impact Nate’s feelings, but I know this was one of his best relationships yet.

I remember getting in “trouble” a lot in 6th grade and most of it was petty little s&*t. Never occurred to me that the teachers talked to each other from grade to grade about us kids. I never had a chance. Walked in with two strikes

I have a lot of respect for Pierce as an author but I feel like he kind of lacks in terms of writing girlfriend arcs. They are always the same length and when he gets all his girlfriend ideas out then he just removes them forever. Still, Angie came back once but that’s it. Maybe revisit some older characters.

Daphne’s friends are terrible friends. Daphne doesn’t care about Nate’s detentions all that much, but they manipulate her into believing that Nate should be dumped because of it.
