Been told they are more comfortable when they are able to look you in the eyes but Arlo really should have recognized what washing her hands in the kitchen implied.
Growing up the master bathroom had a gas heater underneath the sink and during the winter if the cats weren’t on top of the TV they were both crammed into that sink keeping warm.
I’ve never once had this problem. We had outside cats when I was a child, and no cats as an adult. My sister has 15 cats so she probably has this problem, plus many others.
Forced perspective is commonly used for psychological effect. I assume she sees the cat as “looming” for some reason. “Sinking”, however, is perfectly normal behavior for a cat. They like cool surfaces and close-fitting “boxes” which offer partial concealment.
We had a cat Jamie that we had to euthanize last month due to cancer. He loved to curl up and sleep in our bathroom sinks. He’d get up when we came in and “ask” for us to put some fresh water in the sink. He definitely wasn’t there to urinate as some commenters seem to think. Cats are clean animals – they aren’t going to lay where they peed.
When we had a mother cat in our bathroom with 5 kittens, she would get up into the sink to escape the kittens when she wanted to sleep. She was a stray who had kittens in the pick up truck next door…nobody could take them in so we did. But we had a huge tom cat that was not friendly toward the kittens so they all had to stay in the bathroom to be safe.
Roaring! I thought I was unique having to go to the kitchen to wash my hands after ‘potty time’ because I didn’t want to disturb the cat in the bathroom sink!
Just a silly thought – maybe he feels safe there – can’t fall off if in the sink.
I thought of this as husband gets annoyed that I put my eyeglasses in the bathroom sink if I take them off while in there if reading while using the commode as we do not have any countertop in either bathroom and in the sink is the safest place to leave them so they don’t fall on the floor. But almost inevitably he will need to come in and need to wash his hands during this and my eyeglasses will be in his way.

Yes and Ludwig has seen me.

If it really disturbs her, she could always turn on the water. He’d move.

Why is their bathroom sink positioned 5 feet above the floor? Or alternately, why is Janis traveling around the house on a rolling chair or stool?

Turn the faucet on next time, he’ll move.

The youngest cat loves playing in the sink. I’ll turn on the water really slowly so he can bap it.

Why do you think I’m washing my hands in the kitchen sink?

If it fits, he sits.

Either Janis came into the bathroom on her knees or that’s a disfunctionally-tall sink.
One of our cats is especially fond of the bathtub.

My cat seems to think I need his emotional support. No, I’m OK. This is my private time.
