I worked in a hardware store for a couple of years. Two of the memorable customers were a couple of guys, already into a six-pack or two or three, that came in one Saturday morning to get gas fittings for a bar-b-que they were building. As I tried to explain the difference between the pipe fittings and gas fittings, they were convinced they could make them all work together. Odd thing is, I never saw these two again. Or, maybe it wasn’t so odd.
We used to have a lady we called the “glove lady” come in where I worked. She wore gloves all the time. When checking out she would pick a new cashier if available and then always find some reason to yell at them. I rarely had trouble with her so I would try to get her to come to my line if I could.
I once had a woman come into the library with three boxes of books to donate to our book sale, only . . . she wanted me to look them up on ebay, and give the ones that were worth money BACK TO HER. I refused, so she lugged all three boxes back to her car. I smiled the rest of the day.

Other than working at McDonald’s in high school I never had to work with the public. My kids did and from all of their stories, I’m glad I didn’t.

The customer is not alway right but the customer is always the customer. When in doubt, keep repeating, “No hablo ingles.” and go find a manager.
