The worse thing about the cold is that my hubby has a rough time keeping his water pipes on the 5th wheel trailer from freezing. It is supposed to be a 4-season model, but it doesn’t do well with single digits. The snow itself isn’t too bad, it is that the roads don’t get cleared like they do in areas that get more snow than us, and the drivers. I grew up driving on gumbo-type mud roads, so a lot of what I learned about driving on mud is applicable to driving on snow.

Celecca, that is a draw back with the friend requests. Many do it just to have a big number of friends in there profile. Many of them I deny if I don’t recognize the name. For my pool league it’s no probelm.

I’m so thankful for attached garages! I’ve got the all-wheel drive Caravan in ours, besides the PT & a VW Passat. We’ve got a 4-car garage, plus a 1-car shop with a carport sized canopy. but we can’t fit all 5 vehicles we own under cover - too much other stuff. I’ll have to pull out one of the vehicles when my hubby makes it home with the Audi, so he’ll have room. I’m not sure he’ll make it home tonight, since all the roads between here & there are snow/ice packed.

Cleo - It is cold & snowing here. But I’m glad it isn’t warm enough to make it an ice storm instead, unlike those in OK. I’m guessing it won’t be a good cherry season for you, if they are already blossoming out.

Dry - You’ve got a better memory than I do!! I’ve read Zits for years, and yes, this does seem vaguely familiar, but I didn’t really remember it. I guess that’s one of the benefits of losing my memory - I can read books that I know I’ve read before, but I still can’t remember how it ends!

Cleo - I just hate it when my lilac bushes bud out, and then we have freezing weather. That happened last year, so I didn’t have hardly any blossoms to enjoy.

Good evening, tribe. Waiting for the snow to start flying (if they aren’t lying to us again). Supposed to get 6-12” which is a LOT for southeast Virginia. So, tomorrow should be a good day for sitting around and reading comics.

I have heard that people who survive hitting a deer are allowed to take it to a meat locker for processing. Of course, since deer hunters are required to have hunting licenses and are only allowed to kill a certain number, the law enforcement officer responding to the accident has to write up something to exempt the driver from “hunting without a license”. How accurate is this information, I don’t know. The only deer we’ve hit, was already dead, so my hubby didn’t ask to keep it. (He didn’t see it lying there because of the oncoming traffic until it was too late to miss it.)

I hit a deer years ago, actually the deer hit me. It was at night, he was in a ditch, saw my headlights and jumped right into my passenger side door. I called the highway patrol and he said it would be served to prisoners in the county jail.

Terry - I don’t doubt it. For one thing, you’ve got to know where a meat locker that will process deer is located. Most of the meat lockers around here have closed, so there’s about 50 miles give or take, between them. And of course, the hunting laws vary from state to state, so that would probably also apply.

you report it to the police, the police carry deer tags and issue one to the driver. Then the driver can take it to a processing plant, around here we have 3.

Dry - My hubby grew up in PA, so that’s where he learned his extreme alertness for deer when driving. I’ve only had one really close call, and my husband was at the wheel. There were a couple of deer on the road, it was dark, and my husband navigated our car basically between the two. The smaller one hit the front fender area on the passenger side, but as far as we could tell, must have got back up and ran off. The sheriff was going to double-check for us, but let us leave. There was another witness who stopped - they had a pickup with high clearance who drove over the smaller deer while it was still lying down. (They were right behind us.)

I really like the taste of game meat. Caribou and deer and several others are now being farmed and taste just like beef and no longer have the flavor of wild game.

I say all this and I am not a hunter. I have no issues with hunters, look at Duck’s Unlimited, they have done so much to preserve wild ducks. I just have never had the ability to kill an animal. If I had to, to eat meat, I would become a vegetarian and fisherman. I love to fish.

It does look a little more dangerous than gocarts. I’m not sure how it compares with dirt bikes & motorcycles for danger. I’m curious how they steer them, etc. I’ve sent the link to my hubby, but I think he’s old and worn out enough that I don’t have to worry about him making one. My oldest son would have a blast driving one, but he’s not the mechanic his dad is, so I think I’m safe. Well, I’ve got to head off to bed. I decided that since I goofed off today because of the snow, I’d better go work tomorrow on cleaning out Mom’s stuff. I got an offer on the house - still in negotiations, but it might get sold sooner rather than later.

Ah, nothing like a great dinner. You know, I guess that i most appreciate the similarities I have with my wife on food preferences than anything else. Dinner becomes a gastronomic delight.

I am amazed that we are not overweight, especially her. She can pack in the food. I would be fat if i ate as much as she. Eating healthy food helps.

Wow. Two pages of road kill and stinky fish conversation. You guys are easy to set up.

Next topic: Sap-cicles for dessert: with or without added protein.

For those too far south to know what I am talking about, a sap-cicle is a frozen yummy icicle from the end of a maple tree branch in March.

Sorry cleo I’m glad you enjoyed your dinner. What did you have? You two are lucky to have each other. Mealtimes must be great.

Shika, sorry no sugar maples out here in WA. Women are always calling me easy and I am always proving them right. :-)

Shika we had Pollo in Stemperata, a hot chili Sicilian chicken dish that I was going to make for last nights dinner until Lil’G decided that we should have shrimp cakes instead. Both were excellent. Mealtimes are great. We eat our main course with a nice wine and finish up with salad. And of course my homemade baguettes with really top notch olive oil. Yum, can you tell I live for food. LOL

I used to love them, until I started to notice that, like amber, they had critters and bark inside.

Shika we get our maple syrup from you generous east coasters. I love maple syrup, but I love chokecherry syrup more, which we also have to get from elsewhere, like Alberta or Montana.

On that note, I think I’ll head off to bed, with visions of Pollo in Stemparata dancing in my head.

Why do I think of Two Cows and a Chicken instead? LOL

Goodnight Shika. Nothing wrong with 2 Cows and a Chicken. A great protein meal. Chicken grilled and served between two all beef patties.

That’s right Shika there are rodents and then there are road dents. I am sure both are tasty when served with a nice reduction sauce.
