Hi Cleo! That’s not a terrible choice for breakfast, but I have to wonder at the nutritional value.
Anywho, it is time for a nap I think, bbl.
My heart desires Jon and Kate and their 8, the octomom and her brood, and all the iterations of the “Real” Housewives of Wherever to disappear from the face of the Earth. If I can’t get that for breakfast, can I at least get it for lunch? Thanks and good morning all :-)
Genius tribe members - I’m contemplating paying to get the Genius status, so I can get my selected comics emailed to me. Will that work? How do you like that feature? (I’m having trouble with my filter blocking pages, so am thinking if I do that, I’ll still be able to read all of my comics.)
The worse thing about the cold is that my hubby has a rough time keeping his water pipes on the 5th wheel trailer from freezing. It is supposed to be a 4-season model, but it doesn’t do well with single digits. The snow itself isn’t too bad, it is that the roads don’t get cleared like they do in areas that get more snow than us, and the drivers. I grew up driving on gumbo-type mud roads, so a lot of what I learned about driving on mud is applicable to driving on snow.
Rmom–I drove a rig in the service for a time, so I am aware of what the cold does to them. You definitely need to keep up the maintenance in the winter months!
Lonewolf
I had people I don’t even talk to in RL asking to be my friend, and then there’s co-workers - I didn’t want or need to offend them by refusing their requests to friend. I felt so much prssure that it wasn’t worth it. Oh well. Now I know.
Celecca, that is a draw back with the friend requests. Many do it just to have a big number of friends in there profile. Many of them I deny if I don’t recognize the name. For my pool league it’s no probelm.
I’m so thankful for attached garages! I’ve got the all-wheel drive Caravan in ours, besides the PT & a VW Passat. We’ve got a 4-car garage, plus a 1-car shop with a carport sized canopy. but we can’t fit all 5 vehicles we own under cover - too much other stuff. I’ll have to pull out one of the vehicles when my hubby makes it home with the Audi, so he’ll have room. I’m not sure he’ll make it home tonight, since all the roads between here & there are snow/ice packed.
I just remembered I have laundry to do. I am being lazy, I refuse to go outside on such a cold day, if I don’t have too. Luckily, the laundry room is in the basement.
Shika - I’m not really having any trouble with ads. But am thinking that it might be quicker for me when I’m running short of time to do my comic rounds.
How cold is it up there?
@Tabby, just reading about your supper last night reminds me of a fave dish in my family–although not a personal favorite. Cut some potatoes into small slices and fry them, then serve with warmed creamed corn as gravy.
Rmom, yes you get the strips in your inbox, whatever you choose, and you can still comment, go back to the previous day, etc. And it really is inexpensive.
Cleo - It is cold & snowing here. But I’m glad it isn’t warm enough to make it an ice storm instead, unlike those in OK. I’m guessing it won’t be a good cherry season for you, if they are already blossoming out.
Rmom, these are ornamental cherries, but I still worry about plants like our roses, which are leafing out. Daffodils are going strong, hellebores are blooming, etc.
Dry - You’ve got a better memory than I do!! I’ve read Zits for years, and yes, this does seem vaguely familiar, but I didn’t really remember it. I guess that’s one of the benefits of losing my memory - I can read books that I know I’ve read before, but I still can’t remember how it ends!
Cleo - I just hate it when my lilac bushes bud out, and then we have freezing weather. That happened last year, so I didn’t have hardly any blossoms to enjoy.
Rmom, I’m with you, I have read Zits for years and this is only vaguely familiar. Dry, I would also be bummed if Zits ended. It is so accurate a depiction of teens and their parents.
Cleo–All this week it has been “hardly working”. I only have one more day for the anti-biotics and I still feel this junk pretty heavy. My energy level was not that good with the other stuff and now it’s worse. Oh well, this too shall pass!
Rmom and Cleo, I have some of the day to day calendars, I’ve kept them, and todays strip is on the box.
I also remember becasue I thought they were hilarious! :-D
Shika if he is drinking Booker’s all he needs to blow something up is a match and then try to blow the match out. He will singe the hair right off of Dusty’s face.
Shika: Zits is on King Features. mydailyink.com
Unfortunately, it is a member only site after a trial.
Good evening, tribe. Waiting for the snow to start flying (if they aren’t lying to us again). Supposed to get 6-12” which is a LOT for southeast Virginia. So, tomorrow should be a good day for sitting around and reading comics.
Sorry, Shika - my hubby called, so I was on the phone.
I read Zits at SeattlePI.com (I’ve tried to insert the link, who knows if it will work?)
http://www.seattlepi.com/fun/comic.asp?feature_id=Zits
Here’s a link for another comic that I just found. Pretty funny from what I see:
http://www.tundracomics.com/default.asp
Sorry Shika I got caught up in RL, folding laundry, hanging color swatches on the living room wall, picking mint, little things. We also get Zits in our local paper.
I’ve never seen Tundra until this evening, so I can’t say what it is generally like, but from the small sample, it looks like fun. I know Doc and others read a lot of various comics from other sites, but I don’t recall them mentioning this one.
If only Shika. We have at least 22 feet hight ceilings and we are totally changing the colors and want to make sure that we are not making a mistake. We are going to be paying someone to paint and we do not want to get it painted and then hate it. We even hired a color consultant.
I have been reading Tundra for years Rmom and it is consistently good. Sometimes it reminds me of Non Sequitor, but only sometimes. Other times it kind of reminds me of Far Side.
Rmom, you are right, the smell can really be off putting. I really hate when you buy seafood assuming it’s fresh, then have the house end up smelling like fish. Fish shouldn’t smell if it’s fresh.
Rmom, I too have been reading Tundra for about a year now. Turned our Joy onto it, too. It’s a great strip! In fact, my day to day calendar this year is Tundra!
I have heard that people who survive hitting a deer are allowed to take it to a meat locker for processing. Of course, since deer hunters are required to have hunting licenses and are only allowed to kill a certain number, the law enforcement officer responding to the accident has to write up something to exempt the driver from “hunting without a license”. How accurate is this information, I don’t know. The only deer we’ve hit, was already dead, so my hubby didn’t ask to keep it. (He didn’t see it lying there because of the oncoming traffic until it was too late to miss it.)
I hit a deer years ago, actually the deer hit me. It was at night, he was in a ditch, saw my headlights and jumped right into my passenger side door. I called the highway patrol and he said it would be served to prisoners in the county jail.
Terry - I don’t doubt it. For one thing, you’ve got to know where a meat locker that will process deer is located. Most of the meat lockers around here have closed, so there’s about 50 miles give or take, between them. And of course, the hunting laws vary from state to state, so that would probably also apply.
you report it to the police, the police carry deer tags and issue one to the driver. Then the driver can take it to a processing plant, around here we have 3.
Dry - My hubby grew up in PA, so that’s where he learned his extreme alertness for deer when driving. I’ve only had one really close call, and my husband was at the wheel. There were a couple of deer on the road, it was dark, and my husband navigated our car basically between the two. The smaller one hit the front fender area on the passenger side, but as far as we could tell, must have got back up and ran off. The sheriff was going to double-check for us, but let us leave. There was another witness who stopped - they had a pickup with high clearance who drove over the smaller deer while it was still lying down. (They were right behind us.)
Cleo - I know around here, that deer hunters will donate their venison to the local food bank, etc. The meat locker has a sign on the door during deer season about it, because there is a certain procedure to follow, of course.
Dry - That’s probably how they handle it here, too - at least in the rural part of the state. But I don’t know anyone personally who has gone through that experience.
I really like the taste of game meat. Caribou and deer and several others are now being farmed and taste just like beef and no longer have the flavor of wild game.
I say all this and I am not a hunter. I have no issues with hunters, look at Duck’s Unlimited, they have done so much to preserve wild ducks. I just have never had the ability to kill an animal. If I had to, to eat meat, I would become a vegetarian and fisherman. I love to fish.
Cleo Remember me asking you if you had any special recipes for venison? Well, I made the best meatloaf I ever made, and I make a MEAN meatloaf, from one of the packs of venison my friend gave me. It was delicious!
Here it is called the Department of Wildlife and Parks. I know hunting is sort of a form of gambling, but didn’t quite think they classified it as such. LOL!
It does look a little more dangerous than gocarts. I’m not sure how it compares with dirt bikes & motorcycles for danger. I’m curious how they steer them, etc. I’ve sent the link to my hubby, but I think he’s old and worn out enough that I don’t have to worry about him making one. My oldest son would have a blast driving one, but he’s not the mechanic his dad is, so I think I’m safe.
Well, I’ve got to head off to bed. I decided that since I goofed off today because of the snow, I’d better go work tomorrow on cleaning out Mom’s stuff. I got an offer on the house - still in negotiations, but it might get sold sooner rather than later.
Ah, nothing like a great dinner. You know, I guess that i most appreciate the similarities I have with my wife on food preferences than anything else. Dinner becomes a gastronomic delight.
I am amazed that we are not overweight, especially her. She can pack in the food. I would be fat if i ate as much as she. Eating healthy food helps.
Shika we had Pollo in Stemperata, a hot chili Sicilian chicken dish that I was going to make for last nights dinner until Lil’G decided that we should have shrimp cakes instead. Both were excellent. Mealtimes are great. We eat our main course with a nice wine and finish up with salad. And of course my homemade baguettes with really top notch olive oil. Yum, can you tell I live for food. LOL
Shika we get our maple syrup from you generous east coasters. I love maple syrup, but I love chokecherry syrup more, which we also have to get from elsewhere, like Alberta or Montana.
sure, i get here just after Hymenoxis has finished his cleaning up and turned out the lights! oh well, too much for me to read to catch up now anyway. i only checked the last page. glad to see DocT return, and, again, heartfelt condolences to you and yours. i hope to be back some time tomorrow but, for now, i have an early morning at the blood clinic to get siphoned and need my beauty sleep. peace and love to all.

That happened last year, so I didn’t have hardly any blossoms to enjoy.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Rmom, I’m with you, I have read Zits for years and this is only vaguely familiar. Dry, I would also be bummed if Zits ended. It is so accurate a depiction of teens and their parents.
tabbylynn almost 15 years ago
okay ill bbl need to start getting ready and stuff for moms house.
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Losing what memory? What were you talking about? Hello……
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Hey there Terry, working hard or hardly working?
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Cleo–All this week it has been “hardly working”. I only have one more day for the anti-biotics and I still feel this junk pretty heavy. My energy level was not that good with the other stuff and now it’s worse. Oh well, this too shall pass!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Rmom and Cleo, I have some of the day to day calendars, I’ve kept them, and todays strip is on the box. I also remember becasue I thought they were hilarious! :-D
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Hi Terry and Tabby bye again!
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Dry - Now I don’t feel quite as bad! We’ve got some of those Zits collection books here somewhere, but it has been a while since I’ve read them.

Eating supper here. Munch munch
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Is Manfred drinking Bookers? I can’t tell.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Yes, I changed that. My supper is good, but I wouldn’t say that it is super.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Shika if he is drinking Booker’s all he needs to blow something up is a match and then try to blow the match out. He will singe the hair right off of Dusty’s face.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
I liked the Zits too. Where do you read them? Our local paper has it, but not GoComics.
Not that anyone is here to answer.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
HELLO????
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Sounds like a good ending to the movie, don’t you think?
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
One of the first times I saw Dusty, he was being used as a rag to clean the bar. He looked like a dust mop.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
CLEO Were did you go?
I’m not impatient either.
Just short on time.
Well, just short.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Sigh. I suppose you are cooking up a fabulous meal, like shoes, dead birds and stuff.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
And now that I’m going back to work, you’ll show up and say I am too impatient.
Sigh……….

Shika: Zits is on King Features. mydailyink.com Unfortunately, it is a member only site after a trial.
Good evening, tribe. Waiting for the snow to start flying (if they aren’t lying to us again). Supposed to get 6-12” which is a LOT for southeast Virginia. So, tomorrow should be a good day for sitting around and reading comics.
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Sorry, Shika - my hubby called, so I was on the phone. I read Zits at SeattlePI.com (I’ve tried to insert the link, who knows if it will work?) http://www.seattlepi.com/fun/comic.asp?feature_id=Zits Here’s a link for another comic that I just found. Pretty funny from what I see: http://www.tundracomics.com/default.asp
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Thanks rmom Tundra does seem funny.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Zits is on Comics Kingdom here too.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Sorry Shika I got caught up in RL, folding laundry, hanging color swatches on the living room wall, picking mint, little things. We also get Zits in our local paper.

cleokaya almost 15 years ago
No…the shoes, dead birds and stuff is for Valentine’s Day.

Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
I’ve never seen Tundra until this evening, so I can’t say what it is generally like, but from the small sample, it looks like fun. I know Doc and others read a lot of various comics from other sites, but I don’t recall them mentioning this one.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
I love Tundra, also in my local paper.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Ah. My bad cleo Special Day for that kind of gourmet food.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
If only Shika. We have at least 22 feet hight ceilings and we are totally changing the colors and want to make sure that we are not making a mistake. We are going to be paying someone to paint and we do not want to get it painted and then hate it. We even hired a color consultant.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
I have been reading Tundra for years Rmom and it is consistently good. Sometimes it reminds me of Non Sequitor, but only sometimes. Other times it kind of reminds me of Far Side.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
When I find someone who can whip up some roadkill and dead fish with mulch on the side- I’m getting married!
;-DAnd on the strange note, I’m off again!
Into the wild blue yonder!
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
See you when I see you Shika. By the way, anybody can cook roadkill with dead fish. The sign of a good cook is the one that can make it tasty.
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Cleo - LOL! Of course, it is hard to cook when you’re gagging at the smell….
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
You mean it is not tasty on its own?
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Shika I can honestly say that I don’t know. Although I have dead fish at least 3 times a week.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Rmom, you are right, the smell can really be off putting. I really hate when you buy seafood assuming it’s fresh, then have the house end up smelling like fish. Fish shouldn’t smell if it’s fresh.
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
I’m back for a short bit!

COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Cleo, I caught the drift of the conversation. I just ate dinner so I stayed out of that one!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Shika you can also read Zits at ArcaMax.com comics. As well as Jerry King cartoons and the New Yorker Cartoons! That’s a great site!
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
JFri mind if I join you for happy hour?
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Shika - I think road kill is probably only tasty on its own, if you’re a dog like Raymond on Overboard, or some other scavenger type.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
If the roadkill is fresh it might be great on the grill, or if really squished as a chili additive.
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
I have heard that people who survive hitting a deer are allowed to take it to a meat locker for processing. Of course, since deer hunters are required to have hunting licenses and are only allowed to kill a certain number, the law enforcement officer responding to the accident has to write up something to exempt the driver from “hunting without a license”. How accurate is this information, I don’t know. The only deer we’ve hit, was already dead, so my hubby didn’t ask to keep it. (He didn’t see it lying there because of the oncoming traffic until it was too late to miss it.)
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Rmom–From what I have heard and read, it varies from state to state.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
I hit a deer years ago, actually the deer hit me. It was at night, he was in a ditch, saw my headlights and jumped right into my passenger side door. I called the highway patrol and he said it would be served to prisoners in the county jail.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Rmom, That’s a fact, here in PA anyway.
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Terry - I don’t doubt it. For one thing, you’ve got to know where a meat locker that will process deer is located. Most of the meat lockers around here have closed, so there’s about 50 miles give or take, between them. And of course, the hunting laws vary from state to state, so that would probably also apply.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 15 years ago
you report it to the police, the police carry deer tags and issue one to the driver. Then the driver can take it to a processing plant, around here we have 3.
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Dry - My hubby grew up in PA, so that’s where he learned his extreme alertness for deer when driving. I’ve only had one really close call, and my husband was at the wheel. There were a couple of deer on the road, it was dark, and my husband navigated our car basically between the two. The smaller one hit the front fender area on the passenger side, but as far as we could tell, must have got back up and ran off. The sheriff was going to double-check for us, but let us leave. There was another witness who stopped - they had a pickup with high clearance who drove over the smaller deer while it was still lying down. (They were right behind us.)
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Right about now I have a hankering for venison.
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Cleo - I know around here, that deer hunters will donate their venison to the local food bank, etc. The meat locker has a sign on the door during deer season about it, because there is a certain procedure to follow, of course.
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Dry - That’s probably how they handle it here, too - at least in the rural part of the state. But I don’t know anyone personally who has gone through that experience.
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Cleo, I’m with you on the venison, my friend!
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
I really like the taste of game meat. Caribou and deer and several others are now being farmed and taste just like beef and no longer have the flavor of wild game.
I say all this and I am not a hunter. I have no issues with hunters, look at Duck’s Unlimited, they have done so much to preserve wild ducks. I just have never had the ability to kill an animal. If I had to, to eat meat, I would become a vegetarian and fisherman. I love to fish.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Cleo Remember me asking you if you had any special recipes for venison? Well, I made the best meatloaf I ever made, and I make a MEAN meatloaf, from one of the packs of venison my friend gave me. It was delicious!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 15 years ago
No one in my family has ever hit a deer, knock wood, but I have friends who have, and they either keep the meat or donate it.
The Duke 1 almost 15 years ago
cleo, the more the merrier!!
carmy almost 15 years ago
You know, all this talk about deer is reminding me of “My Cousin Vinny” when he was trying to decide what to wear deer hunting.
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Many states require that you report the accident to the game commission if you want to keep the carcass.
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Hello Carmy!
I remember that part.
carmy almost 15 years ago
Hello Terry, Rmom, Cleo, Dry and JFri!**
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Terry - The game or the gaming commission? In KS, the gaming commission handles the casinos, lottery and other forms of gambling.
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
I’m talking Game & Wildlife, Rmom.
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
You only need to contact the gaming commision if you want to know the odds of hitting a deer! LOL
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Here it is called the Department of Wildlife and Parks. I know hunting is sort of a form of gambling, but didn’t quite think they classified it as such. LOL!
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
Hi, Carmy!
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Thanks for the cocktail JFri and now I am off to dinner.
carmy almost 15 years ago
My Dad used to go deer hunting. I always felt sorry for the deer so I couldn’t/wouldn’t eat it.

Terry - Here’s an idea for you! http://www.roman-x.com/
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Rmom, that’s pretty wild! I already have gocarts, dirt bikes & motorcycles. Wolfanfil would just love it with another dangerous venue. lol
Smiley Rmom almost 15 years ago
COWBOY7 almost 15 years ago
Good Night Rmom
Good luck on the sale of the house.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Ah, nothing like a great dinner. You know, I guess that i most appreciate the similarities I have with my wife on food preferences than anything else. Dinner becomes a gastronomic delight.
I am amazed that we are not overweight, especially her. She can pack in the food. I would be fat if i ate as much as she. Eating healthy food helps.

Wow. Two pages of road kill and stinky fish conversation. You guys are easy to set up.
Next topic: Sap-cicles for dessert: with or without added protein.
For those too far south to know what I am talking about, a sap-cicle is a frozen yummy icicle from the end of a maple tree branch in March.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Sorry cleo I’m glad you enjoyed your dinner. What did you have? You two are lucky to have each other. Mealtimes must be great.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Shika, sorry no sugar maples out here in WA. Women are always calling me easy and I am always proving them right. :-)
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Thinking of you.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Shika we had Pollo in Stemperata, a hot chili Sicilian chicken dish that I was going to make for last nights dinner until Lil’G decided that we should have shrimp cakes instead. Both were excellent. Mealtimes are great. We eat our main course with a nice wine and finish up with salad. And of course my homemade baguettes with really top notch olive oil. Yum, can you tell I live for food. LOL
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
No sugar maples? How do you survive???
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
I used to love them, until I started to notice that, like amber, they had critters and bark inside.
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Shika we get our maple syrup from you generous east coasters. I love maple syrup, but I love chokecherry syrup more, which we also have to get from elsewhere, like Alberta or Montana.
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
Drool. Okay. Now you know why I don’t tell everyone what I eat all the time. Boring!
cleokaya almost 15 years ago
Shika critters and bark? Are you trying to guide us back to roadkill. LOL
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 15 years ago
On that note, I think I’ll head off to bed, with visions of Pollo in Stemparata dancing in my head.
Why do I think of Two Cows and a Chicken instead? LOL
