In German it’s just Mittwoch (“middle of the week”). Not very original. But Thursday is “Donnerstag”, named after the Germanic god of thunder Donar (or Thor).
.. and Friday was named for Odin’s wife Frigg. (for the record the days were named for Sunday (the Sun), Monday (the Moon), Tuesday (Tyr, Norse god of war and justice), Wednesday (Wodin or Odin), Thursday (Thor, Norse god of thunder), Friday (Frigg), Saturday (Saturn from the Latin, not Norse).
