There is so much pollution that some people <<< great people have invented equipment that can gather up tons of it and take it somewhere else ? I have never heard where that is though : )
One problem is, every attempt to mitigate the problem even a little bit results in fierce attacks and concerted campaigns against such reforms. Small example: the campaign to move from plastic straws to some thing more biodegradable (and there are great paper straws that’ll stand up to a drink for hours) met with loud ridicule ridicule from all corners. And yet, straws make up a decent amount of that ocean polluting trash. It may not be huge, but you have to address every aspect of the plastic scourge, and straws are an easy fix. I’d love to see all packaging move away from plastic — but that requires industry cooperation.
The world cringes at the thought of burning trash with clean technology instead they just dump it in the oceans and then wonder why the world’s fisheries are disappearing.
Bring back glass and aluminum containers. And any plastics you can’t replace, put a large deposit on them. Michigan instituted a 10 cent deposit on soda and beer containers years ago, stopped seeing them on the road side and we still see plenty of water bottles. Hopefully they will include water bottle containers and raise it to 15 cents in the future.

Not all cartoons are for laughs. Sorry if you were disappointed.

Too true. I appreciate Chip’s use of his strip to expose the plastic pollution crisis.

The Phillipines are the #1 polluter of the ocean as of a study from 2023. The U.S isn’t even in the top 10.

It’s all the plastic we humans have polluted the ocean with!

Odd that this is such an environmentally conscious comic and yet so many environmental deniers and-or rationalizers read it.

A valuable message, but one that makes me sad. Let’s all try to do something to keep our world, including its waters, a little cleaner.
Good Evening, Crew.
