It may be perfectly safe, but something about nuking plastic along with my food just worries me. I’ll take food out of plastic and heat it in a bowl, with paper plates on top to prevent splatter.
Paper plates may have some chemical residue as well, but I figure (assume) that’s better than plastic.

That’s an urban myth, I have retrieved said micro wave dinner before the recommended time with no problems heat wise to the digits of my hands!

Yes. And we wait until the steam has settled.
I use the microwave not only for reheating, but most times for serious cooking from scratch.
