Drat. The old and crankys must finally be getting their hooks into me. My tolerance for less than sterling traits in a protagonist is in short supply lately, even if they’re kids.
Jaded “hate watching”? Hoity toity turning up of the nose at ‘lesser’ roles? Already? At twelve?
No excitement. No joy at getting to do what she loves. Just attitude and drooling over being famous.
I know, different times. Kids aren’t cut from the For Better or Worse cloth or to the pattern of the whimsy of a mischievous exploring the world Calvin and Hobbes. It’s just a comic strip.
I actually kind of still like the strip. But, the main character especially, sits well with me less and less often, even if meant to be drawn in broad strokes and with tongue in cheek.

Patchy has a French accent? I might have to check out an episode to refresh my memory.

According to some weird video essays I’ve seen, we all grow up to be more like Squidward than SpongeBob. So you may as well get a head start…
