John overrides Gordon’s wish to keep the garage’s name as it was. Why?

Gordon would have to wonder why it is that the Pattersons wanted to spend money on this sign instead of investing in replacing the broken hoist that Gordon really needs. This sign is supposed to be a nice gift and yet, it means that whatever stuff that already bears the Daly’s Garage emblem (bank account, stationery, advertising, etc.) is now worthless and has to be replaced. In many respects, this is a terrible gift which will cost Gordon money.

Should have kept the original name like Gordon said, that is how people have known it. A family-owned garage was sold and the new owners, who had been working there, kept the same name. They did update some things and made it theirs in that way.

Why not "Gordon’s Daly’s Garage’? A little old and a little new.

Gordo knows he has to put his name on the garage. He can still have ‘Daly Specials’ on certain services.

Excuse me Dr. P., but as much as I like you, I don’t care for other people meddling in my business, especially behind my back. I may want to keep the name “Daly’s Garage,” at least until my customers become accustomed to the new ownership. And then I’ll decide what to call my business. Also, I’m sure you are aware that there are legal implications with business name changes not to mention business cards, stationary, etc.

A place in Virginia had a ordinary-sounding school. The school board voted to honor a prominent Virginian and renamed it Robert E. Lee High School.

Almost as good as when a street in the ghetto of Washington D.C. was renamed Marion Barry Avenue.
