And finally Tracey speaks. When no one else is around.
Gordon has it wrong and Tracy has it right. They are not starting out with nothing. Even though they have a business loan, that loan gives them a place to live and a business that is their own. How many 19-year-olds can make that claim?
They say our love won’t pay the rent, Before it’s earned, our money’s all been spent. I guess that’s so, we don’t have a pot, But at least I’m sure of all the things we got.
We were right there in 1980. Opened a small business. Hard work, struggles, good employees, good customers and suppliers. Selling it in 1996 probably saved our marriage.
This. THIS is the example young men and women should be looking to. The life together starts FIRST and the economic prosperity, success and happiness follow from THAT! (Not the other way around).
When starting a business, it’s not unusual to not show a profit the first year. I know that, personally as my wife ran two 7-Eleven franchise operations for 12 years.
That’s what young people used to do. That’s what Canada/USA was built on. Now, they want everything given to them because they are afraid to get their hands dirty. I guess you can’t use your smart phone if your hands are busy doing something productive. We’re done for.
They have each other and a business they both like that serves the community well. So in a way, it is everything. Also the shadows make it looks like Tracey has a bat wing in the second panel. That looks cool. I wish Tracey always had bat wings and it was never commented on or explained.
It’s funny. When I have had the occasion to speak to people who “started out with nothing” but made huge successes of their lives almost all of them reflect on those early days as being hard but among the happiest they ever knew.
I’ve noticed that both yesterday and today, Gordon’s bright red uniform really stands out against the color palate. Everything in the background is either desaturated of color altogether or in a soft light blue, and everyone other than Gordon is wearing that same blue shade. Is this supposed to be telling us that Gordon’s standing out from the pack and forging his own path?
Gordon is making dirty money. The garage is a front for a car theft ring. Gordon has engaged in auto theft before. There was a strip where he boosted Elly’s car.
If this were America, it would not matter if John or Gordon’s father invested. Uncle Sam would seize the garage.

What a nice romcom week for the nicest couple on FBOFW aside from the Patterson family. Although there is more romance than comedy in this romcom.
Panel 4’s art work brings tears to my eyes.

Does Tracy secretly have bat wings? If so, she accidentally let one slip out in the second panel.

Gordon: Faithful, loving husband and father. Successful businessman. Couldn’t ask for much more than that.
