Years ago, I found what I thought was a bungee cord on our doorstep. It turned out to be a snake that our cat had caught and eaten the head of. It looked exactly like a Coral Snake and we were quite worried until further investigation told us that it was a Sonoran Shovelhead which is identical to a Coral except the lines did not meet at the belly. It’s like that so they look dangerous to predators.

The rhyme doesn’t always work. Better to learn to identify types of snakes other ways.
