As a little kid, I lived in the low desert. My grandparents lived outside town, far enough away that you could really see the night sky beautifully. An ex-Navy uncle would take my sister and me out and show us the stars, tell us their names, and all that. I remember thinking it sounded like he was talking about old friends. In a way, I guess he was.
