That third panel is such a mood! I’d totally say those exact words had I been in that situation.

I had a similar reaction once when I forgot to prepare a quiz for a college course I was teaching. Not really a problem as the best skill I learned in college was how to punt on short notice.

Quick! Fake being sick so you can be sent home. Then you can do the homework and hand it in tomorrow when you’re feeling better.

There were two times during my schooldays when I forgot to do my homework so I quickly did it on arriving at school.

This seems to be the beginning of a story arc.

Being a kid can be extremely stressful at times… I remember!

Oh, Spud, I never forgot to do the homework. I just didn’t do it.

It appears by the way Wallace and Amelia(?) are positioned that this strange school bus has three rows of seats and two aisles.

This reminded me of a time in high school. My best friend and I were going to our next class. He asked me what I thought of a question on the back of the test we had just taken. My expression was similar to Spud’s as I had forgotten to look on the back. I rushed back to my previous class, pleaded my case to the teacher, who let me finish it, then gave me a pass to get into the class I had been going to.

Don’t panic!!!!!!

Ah, thanks for the memories — even though they’re bad memories, nostalgia being what it is.

I have nightmares about stuff that happened in fourth grade too. We’re talking Duck and Cover drills during the Cold War, but public shaming was a more powerful motivator for me than incineration in a nuclear blast.

Utter contentment to eyes welling up as cold reality sets in to sheer panic
