We Pronounce It Mee-Cro-Wah-Vey

I’m from the UK, and I worked at a kid’s summer camp in America in the late 1990s.

It’s at the end of camp, and the parents are picking up their kids. One of the kids is complaining to her parents.

Kid: “The food here has been horrible!”

The parents look at me for confirmation.

Me: “I’m afraid that’s true. Due to some logistical issues, nothing was able to be cooked fresh; it was all just reheated in a microwave.”

Parent: “Oh, I bet that was exciting for you, though; I guess you had never seen a microwave before!”

Someone found me and I never want to lose that person.

Yep…….some people never figure it out!!!!!

AA has found herself and judging from her last sentence she should keep to herself.

Officially, I’ve read the Bible from cover-to-cover, ONCE. I took two semesters of theology as an engineering student at a Catholic College: Old Testament and New Testament. Reading the Bible and remembering the Bible are two different things.

I do consider myself to be a religious person, just not a very pious one. In fact, irreverent would be a more appropriate adjective, so if I can remember ANYTHING from the Bible it must mean that it made an impression on me.

One quote that does stick out in my mind is “What does it profit a man if he gains the whole word, but loses his soul?”

I am sure that in the context of the Bible, Jesus was talking about a religious soul. However, if we take soul in its secular context: whatever that life force within us that makes us, us, this is good advice.

I did well in my professional career. I am well-enough off. I am not the 1%, but maybe with a more work, I could have been. I was unwilling to do that more work since it would involve losing myself. I like me. Most people I know like me. I like that.

However, I do disagree with Auntie: Life is more fun when I get by with the help of my friends.

How ironic Aunty, We found someone that EVERYONE wants to lose, and it’s YOU!!
