Or moderate. Or honest. Or moral. Or Christian. Or courageous. Or decent. Or most of the characteristics our parents taught & expected of us.

The Republican Party began in the 1854 as the Liberal party in the U.S. Lincoln, a Liberal, was their first elected president. Republican Teddy Roosevelt was a Liberal. Democrat Woodrow Wilson was a Southerner, conservative racist. Coolidge and Hoover were Republican conservatives. conservatives called Eisenhower a “socialist”, some even called him a “communist”. The Republican Party had a Liberal wing well into the 1960s, and last led by Thomas Dewey and Nelson Rockefeller. It was Nixon’s ‘Southern Strategy’ in 1968 that began the full conversion of conservatives in the South to the GOP. Imagine the South supporting the ‘Party of Lincoln’. In the last 10 – 15 years conservatives have pushed out all the moderates.

Party philosophies changed. The Republican Party now is conservative extremists to fascists. If moderate Republicans had any fight in them they would not have been kicked out by the fascist tRump and his MAGA supporters.

Please note the above post by “Ncorgbl”.

It explains in detail WHY when you call yourself a “republican”, you really need to identify “from what time” you consider yourself a republican…

When I first started out in my “political” life, there really WAS such a thing as a “liberal” republican – Nelson Rockefeller, former governor of New York, was such a person…

And being a “democrat” too held different connotations at different times as well…

Labels such as democrat and republican only just start to explain “what” you believe – it’s really all about the “philosophy” you espouse.

I would say that the “Party Platform” should help you decide – but notice that, recently, the republican “platform” is “Whatever Trump Says…”, and Donnie John’s position is notoriously “transactional”…

Moderate Republican’s silence will lead authoritarianism to reign in the US.

Moderate republicans have been hunted into near extinction by MAGAt repiblikkkons and the rest of the GQP. The remaining ones are searching for their long lost spines and just nodding their heads in assent to everything the GQP tells them to do.
