I still don’t think they should assume his dad was the thief; he could have just received stolen property. Although I love the idea of being reunited with your first car!
Several years ago a friend of my father had his Nissan truck stolen. Two years later he saw a truck in the Costco parking lot with a unique feature that identified it as his: he had built his own trailer hitch for it and welded it to the frame. The truck had been completely restored and painted a different colour, with a lift kit and nice tires/wheels, but that hitch proved the truck was his. He parked so as to block it in and called the police. They arrived, he showed them the trailer hitch, and they waited until the guy came out. The police confronted him, had the vehicle impounded, and when they checked it out later they found the correct VIN in one of the hidden places on the vehicle. The guy was charged with possession of stolen goods and my father’s friend got his truck back.
A real conversation would go more like … “You are accusing my dad being a thief? You Fing a**h***! You have 3 seconds to get the F out of my face, or …”

As the saying goes, “Don’t look a gifted Mustang in the mouth.” (Or something like that.)

I’m back, it just occurred to me, that if Crunchy had the car insured, he may have to give back any thing the insurer gave him.

I guess that Crunchy’s retiring now.

What, did Crunchy flash his badge in between panels?

Then he wakes up in the patrol car with Joe asking what he was dreaming about.

Yeah right!

The statute of limitations would have long run out and I believe there are adverse possession laws. Crunchy might have had to fight it out in court.

How will Crunchy’s wife take it? This is basically him returning to his first unforgettable love.
