And the beat goes on….

I belong to a dance club that hires musicians so we can dance to live music. I can assure you that SOME drummers (also rhythm instrument players) have an… imperfect… sense of that kind of time. On the other hand, MOST of them are quite good at it.

All of those dead rock drummers, and not a one died really knowing what time it was. and none of them really cared…

A lot of it was Hawaiian noises, banging on the bongos like a chimpanzee.

Drummers can shift your sense of time.

I think it was Paul McCartney who said the Beatles original drummer Pete Best literally could not play drums. They finally got him to sort of keep time until they got back from a tour, they then hired Ringo.

If you want to listen to a great drummer, play some Cheap Trick when Bun E. Carlos was behind the kit.

I remember when those things were new (I thought I was older than Frazz). Knew a man at the hardware store who used to put his hand on the paint shaker machine when it was running to “wind” his watch. I don’t think he ever lost the fascination.

It’s rare for a drummer to be late for a gig.

I resemble that remark…
