I’m just finishing up digging out weeds and crabgrass with roots down to China in my neighbor’s rose garden before their 50th wedding anniversary party. He pretty much wanted to do the same thing. It’s my gift to them.

I can relate to Phil. I made the mistake of planting one small honeysuckle shoot from a neighbor and a few years later it took over the entire garden!! Pretty flowers, but a little too much!

Something tells me that Phil isn’t smart enough to distinguish native honeysuckle from no native honeysuckle.

If only this worked against Japanese barberry (Berberis thunbergii) without setting fire to everything around it. It makes a nice hedge or ornamental bush, but when birds eat the berries and it spreads to the woods it will take over from your native understory flora.

The plants attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies all day as the tiny blooms are filled with nectar and draw garden visitors from near and far. This honeysuckle really stars in the garden at night, when it releases its strongest fragrance to attract pollinating moths. < Shooting yourself in the foot Phil?

People who complain about honeysuckle have never met kudzu. I suspect it’s a regional thing. If you’re too far north for kudzu, you think honeysuckle is a problem.

I felt that way about invasive wisteria. Found another way, however, to solve the problem.

Honeysuckle is pretty mild-mannered. You can just cut it off at ground level. However, I’m tempted by that technique when it comes to blackberry thicket.

Like James Brown (Fireball) in the movie Running Man. One of the first “unplugged” scenes.

kudzu is edible if harvested from unsprayed areas. w/all the poor people here in the south, I don’t understand why they’re not taught how to harvest & prepare it.?! it’s even sold in capsule form at some companies!
