Subliminal messages, one of the great urban myths / hoaxes. Publish data claiming that subliminal messages in movies saying “buy popcorn” increased popcorn sales by a significant amount and suddenly Congress was passing laws against subliminal messages. The claim was a hoax, no genuine study ever found any effect, but people still quote the hoax. At least I can accept it in a comic strip with gnomes, elves, and squirrels that drive trucks.
A myth…. hmmmm I’m not so sure about that. My wife and I were shocked one morning about 35 years ago when our 2 year old twin boys were playing with toys on the floor with the TV on in the background. The boys were paying No attention to the TV when a McDonalds commercial came on. Nothing flashy or out of the ordinary at that time. (about 1989 or 90) Both boys stopped playing at the exact time and turned their heads to stare at the TV. It was spooky. My wife and I looked at each other and I said… "looks like a subliminal message is being sent in this advertisement. It may have been a coincidence.. but as I’ve already said.. I’m not so sure.
Honestly, I can’t think of any likely suspects that have passed through the strip. A new character, maybe? Unless, could it have been Kevin himself? Back when he was hopped up on helmet head brain juice?
