A sitting room is a formal living room used for company. There’s your difference.

I never have guests, so it’s just an empty room.

it never made sense to me having a room that is rarely used and putting nice furniture in it. put a pool table and a bar in there and have fun

I had a friend who was like that. She had a front room (parlour I guess) that had white carpet, white furniture and was never used and she was even afraid to use it for company because she was afraid someone would spill something.

Hey, Lila had a “sitting room” and didn’t even realize it (her kitchen)!

My Aunt kept everything in the living room covered in plastic, which she would remove when the minister visited. We weren’t allowed in unless it was to play the piano, then we were banished to the kitchen. Never even knew there was a living room until I was ten.

My mom used to have a room like that. It was fully of white furniture and the door was locked nearly all the time. Then, our family grew bigger and she needed the room to put us 5 in to get out of our way…
