Nessie, the greatest sea monster that never existed.

On TV the other day was a documentary about the wrecks in Loch Ness, one theory of why appearances of Nessie started was due to motors in boats, they would create wakes on clear days, these would bounce of the sides of the loch and appear as rolling water as they meet the ones from the other side some time after boat had passed. Never happened before motors as boats needed wind to get sufficient speed, which meant the wakes were broken/hidden by waves from wind.

How did Mortimer allow this to happen?

Loch Ness and the River Ness are parts of an interconnected system of lochs and canals in the Great Glen connecting the North Sea to the North Atlantic.

I want to believe in Nessie, so I will.
