I learned to play poker on-line. I got real good at it. Even played in Reno and made a few bucks. My friends invite me to play poker and the game was like Monty’s. Fun though until the wives shut us down…… They like 327 Chevy. Rules too complex……
We used to play the next card after a queen was wild so the wild card changed as the hand was dealt. If a queen was the last face up card dealt, there was no wild card. Made betting fun.
When asked why I never joined in the card games while at our management conferences I just replied that they’re not really playing poker and I don’t play kid’s games. So instead, I joined the company president and his staff on the golf course. I would say that definitely did not hurt my raises and bonuses each year.
You think poker can be complicted by “house rules”? Mahjohng (like a card game but played with domino-like tiles) has about as many variations as there are towns in China. :)
Considering there are also over two hundred dialects of Chinese, a “new guy in town” has to proceed very carefully. (A notepad probably helps.)

Be sure to listen for (pay attention to) any rules that apply only to the dealer or only to another particular player in the game.

Wait until Moondog hears about the rules of Fizzbin. The rules vary by the time of day; whether or not it’s Tuesday; and whether or not it is raining.

I remember my parents and my aunts and uncles playing wild poker games like this…I miss them. Good times.

That sounds like the kind of game that ends with a gunshot.
