He gets the same results typing with laptop open too.

And was probably asleep while doing it.

No different from the typing he does when it’s open. Might as well leave it closed. Saves on battery life.

He’ll have to be committed to a local coffee roaster after this farce has concluded.

I’m sure there’s lots of “giving up coffee” stories out there. Here’s mine. I gave up coffee for two months. Then I gulped down a mug of French Roast, no cream, two sugars. Parts of my fingernails are STILL imbedded in my kitchen ceiling!
