We know from Mitt Romney’s interview on CSPAN a few weeks ago with Anthony Blinken that the TikTok ban was implemented because they had “too much pro-Palestinian content”, not from any ownership concerns. We can’t have US children growing up in a world thinking genocide is wrong, after all.
We’ve had liquor laws for over a century. How hard would it be to expand them to “social media” feeds? I’d no more want a kid to access those brain-rotting substances than a fifth of whiskey. We used to have a patchwork of state-determined liquor laws, because it involved tax revenues (and a physical product), but they seem to have been mostly nationalized now (with exceptions). The haptics in every phone should be sufficient to know when to block a particular app. As usual, the porn industry got there first.
