I’ve met people who have hardly travelled outside their home county, and people who have travelled all over the world, and they are all fine and happy people.
I have harvested a few wee spots of moss in my yard and used a second hand blender from a, well, second hand store, to make a slurry, using a nice recipe I found in the This Old House magazine. And now I have mosses in all of the shady places in my garden where I want them. I am very happy to be going nowhere.
Yeah, city kids often feel deprived when their parents move to small towns, but the parents often move to small towns to try to keep their kids away from the bad stuff in the cities. Given Amelia’s attraction to mischief, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was precisely why her parents moved, to try to keep her out of juvie. If she hangs out with Wallace and his gang, maybe she’ll realize that city life is vastly overrated, and she can find happiness if she looks for it…
Something tells me Amelia grows to be a fiercely independent writer who drinks Earl Grey tea, is grumpy with tourists and often drinks Mr. Henry’s wine. :P

I do not think she shall be known as “Old Moss-Back Amelia” as George Baily was. :)

Wallace is right – moss is thought to be the ancestor of all plants, just for starters.

Wallace is right. Especially if you walk on it with bare feet…
