when i was little…my mother would sing to wake me up…hated it for one big reason…i am NOT a morning person…never mind the other fact that she sang off key…still does…
Summer morning, the stinking noisy starlings on the fence outside my bedroom window. The noise kept waking me up. I got tired of it one morning and grabbed my brothers 12 gauge. Aimed it at them through the open window, fired through the screen. Got about 8 of the danged things. Closed my window and went back to sleep. That day I repaired my screen and I didn’t have starling issue along that section of fence again. (we lived way out in the sticks. The only thing between that fence and infinity was a mountain.)

I woke up early one morning, the earth lay cool and still.
When suddenly a tiny bird perched upon my window sill.
He sang a song so lovely, so carefree and so gay,
that slowly all my troubles began to slip away.
He sang of far off places, of laughter and of fun,
it seemed his very trilling brought up the morning sun.
I stirred beneath the covers, crept slowly out of bed,
then gently put the window down and crushed his stupid head.
So many versions of this… don’t know which to cite.
