I had to call my bank to reset my password because a malware changed it as I was logging in and I didn’t catch it. I use Firefox and since it is meant to also be used on windows it has that as a security vulnerability. Now when I close Firefox it clears the cache automatically, which was where the malware was hiding. I found that out by running Clam anti virus. Since my OS is Linux I don’t worry too much there but still run Clam once a week.
Sometimes entering all your information for things like online banking CAN be a royal PITA!! Plus having to content with and watch out for the cyber crooks!
My bank would invalidate my password if I didn’t change it often enough. I had to call to get access and would have to answer a litany of questions and be treated like a thief. It was infuriating.
ALSO the cost of a book of checks has just about tripled, and the check registers shrank, so you’ve no room to record the payments from your account that you make by phone or online.(Oh, and postage in the USA !)
We never bank online. We have one credit card with a relatively low balance (had been raised over the decades) which we use online – no other credit cards are used online.
The bank is next door to Walmart – same parking lot – and we are there at least 5 days a week for something or other he wants or needs so walking in the door is no big deal. I get paid by check by clients so have to take the checks to the bank to deposit anyway. Also have to go a bank to get cash when needed anyway – and we need to have cash to leave tip when we go out for our weekly dinner out plus he needs small change for our “senior soda” at lunch.

Lucky Ben, to have a bank in the vicinity. Not obvious in a rural neighbourhood.

Sadly, because of all the scumbags out there we have to go through this rigmarole constantly.

And then you get an email stating “Someone just signed in to your account. If it was you, please disregard this email.”

Or point your phone at the screen, scan qr code, enter six digit passcode. For pretty much everything non-foreign.

I’d still rather go through all that than pay bus fare to go to the bank.
