Preventing forest fires is a heavy burden for Smokey the Bear to permanently carry out by himself alone.

No seriously. Only You! The parks services are being reduced in the budgets. You are all that’s left.

I suppose that could be true.. if “you” stopped everyone from going into a forest you might prevent a forest fire. But any number of forest fires start from natural causes.. kinda the way it was designed to operate. Nature does not care about the collateral damage to homes that happen to be in the path of a fire.

Of course, we’ve since found out forests need routing fires; they are part of the natural process. While, the idea that we can prevent careless fires is positive, it led to the misplaced idea that all fires were bad. End result were far more serious fires.

We aren’t the only fire starters. What about lightning?

If the rock is flint, it could possibly create a spark when rubbed against another flint rock and cause a fire. Thus the sign….only uou csn precent forests fires so don’t rub the rocks together.
