“… French President Emmanuel Macron has dissolved parliament in what’s called a snap parliamentary election that will begin later this month after his centrist Renaissance party and its allies earned less than half the votes of the country’s right-wing National Rally party. Macron announced his decision late Sunday night in a televised address, saying he “cannot act as if nothing had happened.” …"

Another open door for Putin to take control of France, this time let them stew in their own juice as they look likely to pick Le Pen as president.

Well, it’s been hard to understand Macron’s call for snap elections. At first I thought Macron had lost his senses and was trying to make an own goal, because elections were not necessary even after the far right victory in EU parliament elections. But there was another school of thought that maybe he was hoping for a National Rally win so that they would bumble governing and he could set the stage for the next presidential election. But if, that was his calculation, it would probably lead to another own goal, because, from what I read, the NR has learned from past mistakes.

We won’t know the final results until the next round, but my guess is that National Rally maxed out their vote and won’t get to be the governing majority, especially if more voters come out for the second round. But I confess I’m not really in tune with the French electorate, just expressing my hope, given my support for Ukraine, Climate change and other policies affecting Europe and the world. I hope.
