Texting while driving is the new drunk driving. I was sitting at an intersection and the car in front hadn’t moved when the light changed. I noticed the driver’s head was down so I thought maybe he was having a medical emergency. I pulled my car around to the side of his car and he was texting! He must have completely blocked out his surroundings, like blaring horns and angry people.
I heard a comedian say, years ago when smartphones first came into general use, that he looked back with nostalgia on the time when drunk driving was our major worry. At least somebody was driving.
Unfortunately, people acting like they are the only person on the planet is nothing new. This weekend I was going 73 in a 60 zone steadily passing cars and some guy rolls up behind me, cuts in front of the guy I just passed, cuts back in front of me, and flips me off. Guess I wasn’t breaking the law enough for him.

My traveling salesman son often send us texts while he’s on the road driving. He claims they are “voice” texts.
