Just from having a large vocabulary I knew that cruciferous = “cross-bearing”. But why “cross-bearing” vegetables? So I looked it up. (How did life survive before Google?)
Rabe and many other veggies are members of the mustard family, and the four-petal flowers of the mustard plant form a little cross. Makes perfect sense.
A streaming service owned by a concern that got its start selling books will be presenting Batman: Caped Crusader starting August 1st. Bruce Timm (of BTAS fame), Matt Reeves, of the latest Batman motion picture, and Jar Jar Abrams, he who single handedly made millions of people hate and turn away from both Star Wars AND Star Trek, are behind this new Bat-offering. I have seen the railer and about 12 minutes of other clips. It looks good enough to binge all at once.
I never got into superheroes as a kid, but I never understood why Batman’s sidekick would be called “Robin”. Other than worms, who ever said “Look! A robin! Run!” People usually react with “Aw, how cute!”
Given how those franchises seem to want to be dark and edgy nowadays, I think they should retcon the Dynamic Duo as “Batman and Rabies.” That should put the fear into the bad guys. Hopefully Catwoman is up-to-date with her vaccines…

This joke works best if you know that rabe (as in broccoli rabe) — for some unknown reason — is pronounced ROB. (’Strue! You can look it up.)

Soon to be followed by: “Holy cruciferous vegetable gas, Batman!”

Especially enjoying the art in today’s toon! Evocative rendition of Batman, and great Boy Wonder! Well done.
