I’ve only ever found two things of real value on the beach. One was a real men’s Rolex Oyster watch I had looked at by a jeweler and the other was a huge men’s Pave’ diamond ring that appraised at $7K. My enquiries at the police turned up nothing so they gave them back to me. Probably lost by tourists. Everything else was bottle caps, openers, keys, keychains and the likes. Those two treasures keep me going back out.
This almost matches my only idea for a comic strip panel: a man on the beach with a metal detector. Behind him, a ragged row of dug holes, next to each another abandoned metal detector he had dug up.
These guys, like gamblers, never talk about the hours wasted, the sunburn and the things they didn’t find. :)

Behind the dumpsters, right where the last owner discarded the worthless POS.

I think the previous owner was Oompa Loompa. The shaft is only about 14 inches long.

Best place for metal detecting is England. Guy on A.R. had a 700 year old gold ring he found in a field.
I imagine, they’re still finding a lot of ordinance too.

Another reason to hang out around dumpsters.

Does it say “Born to Run my fingers through dirt.” on the back?
If so, it’s legit- and not a carnival knockoff.
