I had thought I had found a coastal shortcut in Northern California but when I noticed that rusting vehicles in yards were stacked two-high, I knew it was time to turn around.
it seems that every farm in these parts is required by law to display either a rusting bus or van in one of its fields. one farm we often used to pass was a bit overzealous, rusting cars lining an entire side of the property…
We live on a 4 lane main road (in suburbia). First year we were living here husband’s van was sideswiped or hit several times so we knew we could not park in the street.
We had a straight one car driveway – had added a curved driveway using the existing driveway as one entry/exit and added a second one at the other end of the curved driveway.
We park the van on the grass half circle in the center of curved driveway and the car at the top of the straight section.
Then we had bed bugs and we bought a Class B RV – where to keep it? It went to the top of the driveway where the car had been. Car is parked behind it at the bottom of the straight section. Van stayed where it was. Sometimes we have to juggle them all around to take a vehicle out or in. Car and van can be pulled out head first from their positions.
But the RV – it has to be backed out into traffic. I stand in the street (try to stay in right lane instead of parking as can see up the road past the bend in same better to see what is coming). Husband backs the RV down to the bottom of the driveway to wait. When I see the road is closed I let know with a walkie talkie. I then run and get on the driveway at the other end. He backs out and drives to me as he straightens the RV out and I jump in as quickly as I can because traffic is coming and we have to get moving.

If you’re selling your used car for more than you paid for your first house – you’re a Senior Plugger.

I sold my grass hidden car but the guy didn’t come and get it for months. So I towed it him. Gave him a bag of grass seeds to get him started.

At that point it’s not a vehicle, it’s an art institution.

Depending on age and model, that price might be too low. You’re looking for restoration fanatics, not those wanting cheap transportation.

One of my bros had an old car frame leaning against the side of his house for so long, a tree grew up in the middle of it…
