Right up there with the braindead half wits out west that think that being in a National Park protects them from the 2,000 pound Bison, or 1,200 pound elk they want a picture next to.
It’s actually Pumba…from the internet (Facebook and YouTube)…finally got up off her lazy a.. and decided to attack somebody instead of just growling and snarling for the camera.
I was walking alone in the foothills in Marin County near Fairfax. I stepped over a small spring that cut across the path and rounded a corner. Thirty feet away was a mountain lion, the exact color of the dried grass. Even before I figured out he had come down from the hills for the spring water, I silently turned around and walked back the way I had come.
I carry a camera everywhere I go. I have been a photographer since the age of twelve. No photograph is worth a close encounter with a mountain lion. I did not hesitate for a heartbeat.

So, that big cat roaming the University of Kansas campus several years ago was really a Hill Lion. Good to know.
