July 16, 1969, one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
I watched the moon landing at my wife’s house in Brooklyn when we were dating. I left her house and walked the mile to the bus stop to go home. It was nearly 1 AM by this time. Every apartment in every building had the front room lit with the glare of a television set. Every window was open. I missed none of the commentary.
I think that at that moment, the entire planet was united. It may have been the last time.
I like it too, but my wife is the turtle.I wish we lived in an age when we didn’t have to worry about the evil intent of people. I hate having the blinds drawn, I feel walled up in the house, and you can’t enjoy the breeze or night sounds with the windows closed up tight.
Last week, my neighbor accused me of looking in his south-facing bedroom windows from 6 feet away. As if I would be able to see anything from 6 feet away with the glare on the windows. Plus, I always wear a large-brimmed hat. What a kook!

In Pacific Grove, it used to be against the law to have your blinds open at night (or closed in the daytime.)

Look through any window yeah, what do you see?
Smilin’ faces all around rushin’ through the busy town
(Where do they go) movin’ on their way
Walkin’ down the highways and the by-ways
(Where do they go) movin’ on their way
People with their shy ways and their sly ways
Oh you can see the little children all around
Oh you can see the little ladies in their gowns when you
Look through any window yeah, any time of day

Poor turtle. Feels exposed in his own home!
