True. No one could hear her bark. Or moan. Or whine. Or whimper. Or cry. Or anything else she did, as she most certainly would have. There was no one there to respond or care. We, the human race, did that to her with utterly cold-hearted cruelty. Our dogs would tear us iimb from limb if they knew, and rightly so.
“My Life as a Dog” by Lasse Hallström is a beautiful/sad film about 12 y/o Ingemar growing up and includes his musings about Laika and her cruel fate. Moonglow gets teary just remembering that movie!

Laika inspired other dogs to become spacefarers, such as Barf, Lone Starr’s loyal companion aboard the Eagle 5 in the movie Spaceballs.
