I have read from the age of about 4 until now… often, even usually hours per day. Though during my working career, more journals and texts and not so much “for pleasure”. During that entire time, I’ve found it very hard indeed to read what someone else tells me to read. From assigned reading in school to a month or two ago when Spouse bought me the Liz Cheney book about January 6th.
I was so sure when I was a child that any book recommended by an adult would be boring that I have never ever recommended a book to a child. (I did read the books they bought me, though. After all, they were there. Some of them were okay.)
I hated assigned reading. There are so many books I was required to read that I just couldn’t stand at the time, and I suspect that I would be delighted to read them now.
And it’s a flashback because . . . ? I mean we begin the week with dog walking/talking. What would trigger a flashback? Maybe tomorrow will give a hint.
I believe this is a response to the readers speculation of how the required summer reading was optional instead of a list from the teacher. The outline is so no one complains it’s a repeat.

I think this is a flash-back to explain why she decided to try letting her students pick their own summer reading list.

With the dashed panel borders, it looks like this is someone’s thoughts or dream.

Aisles don’t have corners.
