Sooo, Susan… if Christians meet and marry, it’s romantic, and if Muslims do it, it’s barbaric? No double standard there, huh?

I met my spouse at a SF con, but we didn’t get married until 11.5 years later, 33 years ago yesterday. I would think long courtships would cut down on divorce… meeting and marrying within a year sounds insane to me, no matter what culture…

Hindus have also used prearranged marriages for a very long time, based on Hindu astrology. However, more and more people are moving away from that tradition, as people are exposed to global culture.

Divorce is rather easier in game-show land.

Watching “reality” TV shows is like watching “professional wrestling”, except the story is less complex.

I’m a conservative Christian, and I’ve always wanted to be a wife and mother, and I’ve half-jokingly and half-seriously said I’d be okay with my parents arranging a marriage with a high-quality young man as long as he met a few qualifications (besides the doctrinal ones), such as willing to deal with spiders and other creepy crawlies, not into pranks or mean teasing, etc.

Mom & Dad met on a blind date. Took Dad a couple of years to convince her, but it lasted 77 years, so there’s that.
