I always rushed through summer reading in the first few days to get it out of the way and not have it hanging over my head. Except for the usually one out of three books that wasn’t set in Victorian England or some other era that execrably sucked as far as interest to a middle schooler – or anyone for that matter! – my recall by the time of the test three months later was woefully inadequate. Good thing all the rest of my grades in English were so high I never had any problem more than making up for that one lousy summer reading test.

Strangely in grade school I never had a summer reading assignment. I am an avid reader so I’d have loved that particular homework.

I always did them the first week. Summer is so much better for non-procrastinators.
