There was a very funny satirical article about an archeological dig in an old Holiday Inn, complete with a long dissertation about what they used the various pieces of plumbing in the bathroom for….

My cursive handwriting is within the range which would have been considered legible (so I claim) forty years ago or so. Just garden variety everyday longhand, not copperplate or Spencerian, but younger people tend to see it as “calligraphy”. They can’t read it, though, unless they’ve put in the effort to study it on their own. If I need to write something down for anyone under about forty five or fifty, I print.

In California they had stopped teaching cursive, but research has shown that one learns/remembers better when using cursive, so they are going to bring cursive back to the classroom.

Want to create confusion? Ask to pay with exact change, or to round it and get a bill back. Write a note in cursive and see the bewildered looks, before they have the courage to ask you what it means.

Is she commenting on the note on the refrigerator or his grawlix?

As I’ve noted on other strips that raise this issue, with my dreadful penmanship, I have no love for cursive. Let it die!
