They always have money to construct speed bumps, but never money to repair the potholes. Why can’t they scrape off those blasted bumps and dump the material into the holes?
I was the passenger in a car with my commanding officer in the National Guard. He was taking me to the top of a mountain on a visit to the communications site that one of our units set up there on an exercise (I did not have to be there, but he was mentoring for a future role).
On the way up this mountain road, he was weaving back and forth and he commented, “I’m trying to spare you as many potholes as possible.” My response was, “Don’t worry about it, sir. I’m sure the ones you miss on the way up, you’ll get on the way down.”
He was a notorious punster (even worse than me). He delivered a number of them to which I did not respond. I finally said to him, “You keep pitching them, sir; I’ll swing at one of them eventually.”
Actually one can hate a lot of things but usually that shows when a specific issue arises. In this case it’s potholes/unused taxes. Tomorrow it could be something else.
I was listening to the XM radio, and Dion DiMucci’s song “Abraham, Martin and John” came on. It was followed by Billy Joel’s “Only the Good Die Young”. For want of a few inches, a democracy may be lost.
Jeff, regarding your other cartoon, on unity: While I agree that there are many viewpoints to the issue in Gaza, I think the Dems did a Marvelous job with demonstrating unity at the opening night of the convention! I’m excited to watch the speeches these next three nights! And I finally learned to watch it on C-SPAN. No commercials, no pundits and talking heads trying to give commentary during the speeches, and no muting of the so-called “lesser” speeches while the correspondents conduct interviews.
Silicon Valley here. We have more people, with cars, than probably anywhere in CA, except maybe Los Angeles. The roads are CRAP! If it isn’t potholes it’s huge metal slabs covering where they’ll hook up utilities for some new apartments or housing tracts. Our cars take such a beating you’d think that the auto repair places are paying the cities NOT to fix the potholes ;-)

Around here, they collect the taxes and still don’t fix the potholes. We all wonder where our taxes are really going.

I got promoted anyway.

Taxes. With representation. It is a patriot’s privilege.

What if you have both high taxes and potholes?

Oh yes, you can! Come to San Diego where you pay taxes but they don’t fix the streets because the state gives bonuses for not “supporting cars.”
